| over the one lacking it. you get to use older lens with out built in motors and usually any of the old primes and super telephotos have a lot of glass and are great quality. BUT, the money you save from the higher end you can use on a newer VR lens, which can make up for other things. But it's a slippery slop. I use a D300s and at track days i use a 70-200 2.8 vr1 and maybe a TEiii 1.7. that's like $2500 in glass there.. I rented a 200-400 f4 for F1.. dont ask.
